Got this in an email.
These folks got about four inches of snow in north Texas. Two brothers and a dad decided to see if they could guide them on a successful hog hunt with a bow.
Unfortunately the shot was a little back and he crossed a creek that they were unable to cross. The ice was to thin and water to deep. They did not recover the pig.

Summary: I'm currently learning the lease process and public hunting in Texas. A lot of you have shared your knowledge of these processes to help me understand. Summary:
get ready to share your bow season with some brand new crossbow
owners!!!! even though you can shoot 3" groups at 100 yds with a
mounted scope !!! that is not, I repeat not, archery !!! wish this
stupid legislation was never passed!! I know you other hardcore
bowhunters agree!!
Montana, glad to hear that your wanting to get into bow hunting. Bowhunting is a wonderfull and challenging sport. A good pro shop is going to allow you to look at and possibly try several different brands of bows. There are some things you'll need to figure out before you buy a bow. The bow must fit you. So, you'll need to find out what your draw length is. Secondly, you'll need to know if your going to shoot with your fingers or a mechanical release. Thirdly, you need to figure out what weight range you want your bow to be. Once you figure these things out you can start looking for a bow and the accessaries to make it hunt ready.
Once you start your serious search for a bow I would say buy the best equipment you can afford. You'll be glad you did in the long run. As far as brands of bows with good quality at a reasonable price, I would say good choices would inclued PSE, Browning, Hoyt and a few others. Most of them have entry level bows that are good. I personally prefer Matthews. Matthews may be out of your price range though. I would suggest that you get a single cam bow. They are much easier to tune and they stay in tune.
We are an authorized dealer for: Hoyt, Reflex, Mathews, Bowtech, Diamond and Ross Bow lines. We have a link to all of these sites,on our links page, so you can look at the new models. Of course we can not sell or ship most of these bows, they are a ProShop only sale. You may call or email us at sales@redneckarcheryinc.com for more information, prices or directions to our ProShop (Toy Store!). Let us know how we can help you.
